Not It! A Sermon on Luke 23
All of us have excuses. Each of us can justify our actions, or inaction. Those who were witnesses to Jesus’ crucifixion were also ready with their excuses. Even today, we continue to deflect the question of “Who is responsible for Jesus’ death?” We want to put the blame of Pontius Pilate, or the Jewish religious leaders, or the people yelling “crucify him”. But rarely are we ready to take the blame ourselves. We’d rather join in with the rest of those asked, “Who is responsible for Jesus’ death?” – “Not It!” we say.
